BYON...Bring Your Own Nurse

"When the Hospital Staff isn't enough" Highlighting a growing trend this article from The Washington Post (printed in 2001) talks about how many people are starting to higher private duty sitters and nurses to care for themselves and loved ones when they go to the hospital. As patients get sicker and sicker at hospitals nurses are increasingly forced to give less attention to anyone who is not in an immediate crisis. Some hospitals turn to travel nurses to solve the problem. Others create incentive programs to get nurses to work longer hours and more days. Even technology is being looked at to help solve the nursing shortage.
